Had a friend recommend this place - so glad she did! Started with the fried cheese/risotto balls - came three to an order and we shared - I could eaten all three myself!! I had the spaghetti bolognese and my husband had the gnocchi - both were amazing!!! We finished with the ganache- fried chocolate balls with ice cream - a great way to finish a great meal!! You must make reservations - it's a small place and gets very crowded during ski season. Be sure not to miss it!!

Incredible food and wonderful service. We sat at the pizza bar - having made a reservation which is highly recommended. Our food was delicious and watching the kitchen in action was fascinating and informative. I have been in and out of Steamboat for 40 years and have never had a meal like this.

Wow! What an experience. I have been there twice in two different ski seasons; and each time has been amazing. Chef Hannah came to out table and made sure our experience was tops. Jen, our server, was knowledgeable, and approachable yet professional. I will say that our first visit had a strange vibe from the floor, but the second visit was perfect. Found out later that they had a change in floor manager. Good move, Mambos.

Came here twice in a row on this trip (we come out to steamboat every few years) This is a place that has weathered the test of time and continues to consistently turn our great pizza and pasta dishes. We even took our pizza up to Hahn's peak and enjoyed leftovers up there. Great spot for groups and their pizza/ pizza crust is to die for, just the right balance of doughiness and crunch. Waitstaff was appropriately attentive and came out to help us out at the right times.

We visited three times during our vacation because the kids loved the pizza. I want to love this place, I really do, but the service is marginal at best and downright horrid at its worst. PROS -Good food. Almost everything we tried was tasty. -Nice ambiance, especially the outdoor patio. -Great variety and selection of pizzas. CONS -Inexplicably slow service (the place was half full). -NOT a good choice if you have anywhere to go or have figity kids. -Complete disconnect between the floor manager and the servers--as bad as the service was at times, the floor manager was oblivious to our 40 minute wait for entrees, the server bringing salad and an entree to one person while everyone else sat with nothing, bringing salads WITH entrees--on purpose, just ridiculous stuff from what would otherwise be a quality restaurant. Sloppy service from a place that should be better.

I travel to Steamboat for work 3 or 4 times a year and since this place was recommended to me, I always try to squeeze in a dinner here. The menu is pretty standard Italian fare, but the chef's creativity is best exemplified in the Apps & Salads choices. Everything I've had has been super tasty, and I'm always bummed that I can't order/eat more. The prices are decent for the most part (this IS a resort town) and the wine selection leans heavily Italian (thank you!) If you're craving Italian food while visiting Steamboat, this place is a must.

This place would get 5 stars if our server was a little more put-together. She forgot a beer we ordered, our waters were never re-filled, she wandered around aimlessly (screwing up orders for the people around us as well, and spent an unnecessary amount of time explaining the specials. Their pre-set pizza options were creative and yummy (fiance had the jalapeno/chicken/peach) and there was also the option to create your own. This food in this place is very fresh and has a huge, amazing patio!

Had an amazing experience tonight at Mambo's. Steamboat was extremely busy during the weekend of March 20th, 2015. Make a reservation if you want to get in. Karen was our server and we HIGHLY recommend asking for her to be your server too. She knows the menu well, loves people and gives exceptional service. The whole team was great though. Now to the food - great Italian food. Very authentic and an extensive global wine list too. Appetizers: -bruschetta with local honey, walnuts and some amazing local cheese that blew our minds (latur cheese) -meat & cheese plate was on point Entree's: -princessa pizza - very good - huge portion -meat lovers pizza - excellent - huge portions Dessert: -ganache with vanilla ice cream - JUST DO IT!

Fabulous! From beginning, delicious sangria, to amazing lasagna, farfalle pasta with artichokes, mushrooms and chicken in a yummy cream sauce and special order of crab legs. It kept on going with delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies ice cream sandwiches for the kids. Two big thumbs up!

We were in the mood for a nice pasta dinner but when we walked in and sat at the counter - the chef's were throwing pizza dough and creating some really great looking pizzas - so what choice did we have? We ordered a standard pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and truffle oil. Though they forgot the mushrooms, the pizza was still delicious. Crust nice and crispy, sausage spicy but not overwhelming. Not sure if the truffle oil was real or not. Truth be told I've never had it before - but it sounded intriguing. Since it was only $1 to add - my guess it was a knock off. It tasted more like a garlic infused olive oil - still good nonetheless. A shout out to Julia our server. She was very knowledgeable regarding her wines and talked me into a nice crisp pinot grigio like white that I thoroughly enjoyed. A great ending to a wonderfully snowy day in Steamboat!

Anybody who gives this place less than 3-4 stars just doesn't get it. It's a popular Main Street restaurant in a ski resort. That means its going to be crowded Went tonight (a Friday in ski season) they were SLAMMED.. The hostess didn't blink when we said we had no reservation. What she did say was, "Can you guys finish dinner in an hour and a half? That table is reserved but I'm sure you will be fine." That's beyond First Class... Then there was Karen, our server, she was amazing, full of energy and just a happy person. Oh the food very very good and inventive So thanks Nice manager lady, hostess and Karen. You went above and beyond to take care of the customer. THANK YOU.

We went to Mambo for our first time tonight and it was amazing from start to finish. I highly recommend sitting at the bar top area. LeAnn, the hostess, was more than accommodating to switch us from a back table to countertop area where you can see the chefs in action. The food was amazing, the ganache dessert was delicious too. I was at Mambo Italiano over the weekend celebrating my birthday with a large group of friends. The food was good (the reason why I am providing 2 stars), but that's as far as I can go. We had a reservation for 11, and when we arrived, we were ignored for around five minutes at the hostess stand, only to be led to a table that wasn't set or set up right by the bus station, kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom toilet was clogged and overflowing (and once I made a comment to our server, she unapologetically said "I know," and before I gently suggested they put an "out of order" sign on the door next time). The sever had a flippant attitude throughout the night, that didn't end when I called her out on misallocating a split bill how she saw fit (and again, unapologetically). It was one of the few times in my life, where I was really sorry for auto-grat on a nearly $600 bill. I would recommend the restaurant for decent food, but warn anyone going to expect 1 star service. Since good Italian food is not particularly hard to find, I don't expect that I would ever go back here.

We have been coming to Steamboat regularly to ski and even bike, hike, and tube in the summer. We LoVE Mambo... Almost too much! The portions are gigantic and it took is a few visits to get it down... Share a few for the table or leave feeling bloated....Exception is our 14 year old son who devours the lasagna all by himself! The garlic braids are to-die-for! We have enjoyed happy hour in the bar and even got a coveted table on the patio last July 4th before the fireworks. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars? The service is hit or miss... Never bad or anything, just kind of snobby and aloof at times- not just once but a few times. Weird for such a laid-back town.

I am a long time local of Steamboat and know this restaruant very well. Until last night is was a hot spot for me to go but after having my family verbally abused by the owners sister, I can't recommend this place to anyone. You guys need to get this girl under control and perhaps have a manager get involved when you see something like this happen. The manager of the restaurant heard about it and then didn't do anything. It's not fun to have some drunk woman talk shit to you for the majority of your dinner. If you're reading this Brittney, I don't care how bad your day was, get some help before more locals stop supporting Mambos. The food is awesome though, get take out.

The food was very good but the service was disappointing. We were thrown off with the way the hostess failed to welcome us but rather went straight to asking how many people in our group. We felt rushed throughout our entire meal, failing to receive a list of the specials or dessert! The last straw was leaving us with our check without asking for it; food still on our plates and wine still in our glasses. We came here to treat ourselves and felt that just because we were younger than most patrons we were not taken seriously and offered the same experience. As servers ourselves we are aware not everything can be perfect but would never treat our own customers the way we were treated.

Saturday 6-27-14 my wife and I went to Mambo Itliano for dinner. When our waitress arrived and told us about the dinner items, I had the impression that insincerity oozed from her pores. They did not have the wine I wanted, so I ordered a wine that was relatively inexpensive ($8!) compared to the others. Unfortunately, it was not very good. The waitress was clealy not happy when I asked her to send it back and had a beer instead. The pizza was fair, at best. The restaurant is narrow, cramped, and loud. And the service was mediocre. This was certainly not the kind of experience I wanted to have on my vacation.

3.5 stars really, but I am rounding down a little bit for the price point. We stumbled in shortly before closing after a long day of skiing, sun, and happy-hour beers looking for something to supplement the rice crispy treats we had for lunch and to help soak up the happy hour, and Mambo's didn't disappoint. We found the service to be very prompt and friendly, but our friend had worked there and knew the server, so your mileage may vary on that (a couple minutes after we had placed our order there was a rather odd conversation with the manager on duty, who asked us if we were planning on ordering, but I think she was just trying to get her cooks out on time, which I respect). We started with the Mambo Nachos, which were both very unique and pretty awesome. The pasta chips were thick enough to stay crispy under the mozzarella and tomatoes, and the banana peppers added a nice little spicy-sour kick to offset the rich alfredo. As we finished them up, our bread basket arrived with a couple pieces of rich, buttery focaccia. Our entrees were decent sized, and overall pretty tasty. The carbonara was nice in that it didn't cheat by using alfredo, which far too many places do. As a result it wasn't overly heavy, which was nice. The downside of the meal was the bill, $150 for three entrees, one appetizer, and four or five drinks. That's not outrageous, especially by ski town standards, but it wasn't a steal either. I'd go back, but wouldn't go way out of my way to do so.

Great pizza! The trout special was also delicious. I hate fried food but my dad ordered the calamari and the few bites I had were quite tasty. Fresh and crispy and not too greasy at all. No reservations but 30 minute call ahead. I would recommend this since they are BUSY, especially during ski season! Nice decor - brick walls, cozy inside. Friendly and helpful service. The waitress told me one of the menu items was NOT good, which honestly a really appreciate. I switched up my order for the trout and was very happy with my selection. Good wine list as well, reasonable prices for what you get (i.e., good quality food, friendly and helpful service). Tiramisu was awesome - light and refreshing coffee chocolaty goodness! A sign of a good Italian restaurant. Definitely order this. One of my favorite places to eat in Steamboat! Highly recommend it :)

Mambo Italiano in Steamboat Springs, CO is AMAZING! We have been the past 5 years during our annual ski trip - the food, service and atmosphere keeps getting better and better. This year we went twice in one week. I can't say enough about the service Andrew, Julia and Leanne provided us. The food melts in your mouth and the drinks are delicious. It has something for every age group. Our kids love the pizza and pasta. You will not regret going to Mambo's! Be sure to make reservations early as it gets really busy.

Everything we ordered was delicious from the garlic bread, pizzas, pasta, salads, to the desserts. We ate outside which was perfect. The presentation of the food was excellent. Service was a bit slow but they were busy. Favorites were the kale salad, every pizza we ordered, the fig, the asparagus and the white, the desserts of chocolate hazelnut and a fried chocolate ball of deliciousness served with ice cream. The people who ordered the pasta mentioned that it was a bit under done and the sausage needed more seasoning. But we are all returning tomorrow night!

I went to Mambo Italiano during a ski trip in early January. The pizza was pretty good, it might have even earned 3 - 4 stars but the service was just way too slow. We were there after the rush and there were plenty of tables open but it took 2 1/2 hours for a 2 pizza dinner. We saw the chefs take a break from the open kitchen and stop cooking altogether. I would say it's still worth a try, especially in a town with fewer options, but be prepared for a very casual pace.

We started out with the kale salad, followed by the gluten free bolognese( maybe that's why the portion was small?). Service--It took about a half hour to even get a drink of water or any other drink for that matter!

great dining experience! our server was like and Italian mama, making sure we enjoyed the experience. never an empty water glass and checked on us often. even brought a wine sample to ensure I was happy with my selection. the warm olives appetizer was huge and tasty. the black kale salad was large enough for three to four and prepared perfectly with just the right amount of all ingredients. we were pretty full at this point but couldn't refuse the butternut squash ravioli which was another home run. so glad we split this dish as it was large and the cheese sauce was to die for! we will definitely return as the freshness and local ingredients are always refreshing and addictive!

I used to love this place and brought people here for business dinner. I hadn't been there in about 6 months until last night. I hope it was an anomaly, but the service was terrible (wrong food delivered to table 2x, forgotten drink orders, had to ask for bread 2x) and the only dish that I can speak positively about was the lasagna. Everything else was bland. Walked past 3 employees on the way out and not one even acknowledged our presence much less thanked us.

At first, I was going to rave about this place when I ate the black kale salad, then, my party had to wait... And wait... And wait.... The waitress seemed to forget our order,,, a child fell asleep cuz they took so f$&?!$& long! When the dinners finally showed up, they weren't great. Went to MI with the fam on a recent sunny Sunday evening. We chose the patio seating (which is covered) and immediately were presented with specials, menus and drinks. Chose the fried calamari as our app, and was surprised to see a relatively generous portion for all to share. Additionally, adults dissected one portion of the mozzarella, tomato salad, appropriately dressed with vinegar and oil. Dinner was a tad more hit and miss; got the linguini and mussels, with several of the mussels served not open (ie, dead before being steamed); how hard is it to see those and replace with fresh or do folks assume most of their clientele will just pry them open and pop in a possibly very spoiled piece of seafood, potentially ruining the entire meal? Your guess as good as mine All in all, a decent dinner, but feedback would be for them to focus on those shell fish.

Back for another ski season and stopped at Mambo for a meal. Same arrangement as last year with the Kitchen Counter set up. One change I immediately noticed was instead of the half loaf of bread with the roasted garlic and butter, the have switched to ciabatta. Poor switch from my perspective but still tasty. Prices seemed to have migrated up a little since last year but bearable since iI can still squeeze two meals out of most entre's.

I must note that I only came here for cocktails, seeing as I couldn't find a "tavern" anywhere near my motel, or anywhere in town for that matter. I read all the reviews and agree with the reviewers who commented that their happy hours shouldn't be done away with and that for the big price tag, you're not exactly getting a big bang for your buck. After a long camping trip and enduring lots of rain, we camped out our last night at a motel in Steamboat. Needless to say, I needed a drink, so I ventured by this joint about 9:00 at night. I ordered a brandy, quite willing to pay a hefty price if the brandy was a good brand. But it wasn't. Christian Brothers is the cheapest rot-gut you can buy just about anywhere. Nevertheless, they charged me TEN BUCKS for what wasn't even a shotglass full. Suffice to say, I will not be back for cocktails any time soon. I wish Steamboat had a tavern, old school, cheap. I couldn't find one, only yuppie-hangs with steep pricetags. If I missed a good joint, write me and let me know.

It is not authentic Italian. Maybe being from the east coast where we have amazing Italian good it is unfair to criticize. But - the rosemary white bean dip was great. For dinner I had the eggplant Napoleon. There were three huge hamburger size breaded things on top of spaghetti with sauce that could have been from a jar. All of that breading for a tiny piece of eggplant inside.

I will make a long story short :) This is a great little spot with a beautiful patio and outdoors bar. Busy! Well decorated and a lively buzz made for an enjoyable 3 hour visit. Half of that time we were waiting for our food... But our humorous waitress, great wine, salads and bread distracted us from that. We came to learn our ticket was somehow lost on a busy night, which the owner sheepishly admitted to us. He offered to comp our entire ticket as a gesture of gratitude for our patience. What a stand-up guy, to approach us with a solution in hand who handled it immediately. In fact, he encouraged us to try every dessert and suggested we keep our wine glasses full for the duration of the evening. What an excellent example of customer service! The pizzas were very good, the bread dipped in balsamic & vinegar was great, the evenings special seafood combination in a clear broth was outstanding; the kids enjoyed their pasta's and every dessert we tried was very good. The food was overall very good, but the service and the reaction to this problem earned Mambo Italiano 5 stars. You can bet we'll be back.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend away in Steamboat, and we passed Mambo Italiano as we were walking around town. It was a Friday night, and BUSY! I loved the energetic atmosphere. We asked to sit at the counter so we could watch the open kitchen in action. The service was slow but friendly, and we didn't feel neglected. They were so busy that we understood, plus the view of the kitchen in action was really entertaining. We started off with a small pizza for an appetizer. It had a delicious crust, sauce, and some fresh shredded basil on it. My boyfriend got a chicken parmesan dish, and I got the portobello mushroom ravioli. DELICIOUS! I told my boyfriend that it would be worth coming back to Steamboat just to eat here again. We wholeheartedly recommend this place.

We wandered in here after the 4th of July parade for lunch last year, loved it, and came back for dinner this year. It's one of our favorite Colorado restaurants now, not just for Steamboat, and I can't believe it's not higher up in the yelp ratings. Our last year's lunch, mushroom crepes, is still on the menu--it was incredibly good when we tried it. This year, the soup of the day was a cold watermelon/jalapeno, truly outstanding. Cold fruit soups usually sound good but end up tasting insipid, but this one tasted like fresh watermelon with just enough bite. Loved it. Our dinner choices weren't as adventurous but really high quality examples of their kind.; my husband's lasagna featured a terrific red sauce and my fig/ham/goat cheese pizza was a really wonderful one. Also, we had great service and found their patio very inviting.

I gotta say. I was not really wowed with this place. I did like my food, but I few others in my party of 6 sounded pretty disappointed with theirs. I know it's Steamboat and all, but this place is SPENDY! $19 for glorified fettucini alfredo? I mean sure it has pancetta in it but come on...I would rather have a salad/soup come with my gargantuan plate of pasta then get no greenery (unless I want to pay an additional $7) with my meal. Service was just ok. There are too many other great places in Steamboat to throw down this much time and money for me.

I can't speak for the food because we all had dinner before stopping in (which we very much regretted - it smelled insanely delicious inside). The bar atmosphere is comfy, cozy, and a great place to spend a few hours. Lots of New Belgium brews on tap, happy hour specials from 4:30-6 in the form of $1 drafts, $1.99 Guinness, and 1/2 price pizzas PLUS they make a mean hot toddy (which I am apparently obsessed with right now). This place is definitely worth a stop.

Mambo Italiano has good food but not great considering the price. The bf & I wanted or maybe it was needed pizza, either way we ordered from Mambo Italiano because after a day of boarding we were both just too tired to pretend we cared about clothing, hair, etc. We placed an order and it was ready when we arrived. The pizza is well made as was the tiramisu but at over $30 for a pizza and one dessert... eh it will be awhile before we go back.

I just finished a margherita pizza with a dark and stormy mixed drink. The drink was delicious, but I think an upgrade to a fresh sliced mozzarella and tomatoes instead of sauce would make the pizza rock. Sat at the bar in the back and watched my food being made---this scored me a sample of garlic knots (not on the menu--but be sure to ask about them). Deep fried doughknots with fresh garlic and butter---no vampires allowed. Overall a solid 4--great atmosphere and service at a moderate price.

There is a plethora of Italian restaurants in Steamboat and I chose this based on their menu, which was in the hotel room. It was Friday and I called ahead to put my name on the list for a party of two. We arrived and waited about 20 min to be seated. While waiting, we went into the bar area to get a drink. There seemed to be two bartenders but neither noticed us standing behind the seated bar patrons so we gave up. We were seated after that and ordered our food and glasses of wine. The dinner salad was standard. The eggplant Parma was ok; the slices of eggplant were thicker than I like. My dish was the shrimp scampi. It's a fairly standard dish so I didn't expect much. There was a decent amount of shrimp over linguine but there was no seasoning. I added salt and red pepper flakes for flavor and a kick. I don't mind adding salt; I would rather add salt than for a dish to be overly salty. But I expected some seasoning. On the plus side, the shrimps were cooked perfectly (tender and juicy) so I wasn't too upset. I wouldn't make it a point to return, especially with a wait. It was comparable to a mid level chain Italian restaurant.

I've eaten here several times over the years and just finished a good meal moments ago. Mambo Italiano is not perfect but it is s good value and you never feel angry, disappointed or ripped off like you might in many ski town restaurants. The food is very good. Not necessarily elegant or super creative but it is very satisfying after a day out in the cold. Tonight the wife had the roasted salmon and potatoes - came out perfect. I had the eggplant - a little thick for my tastes but tasty and satisfying. Good general vibe and accommodating staff. Don't expect a lot of attention as they very busy so the service is ... serviceable.

Every now and then- I re/review an old listing. I eat here often - or I try t, the service is very very slow. So be patient, the food is really ok I actually never ate dinner this night. My wife and i waited 35 minutes and although we ordered drinks after 15 minutes at the 35 minute mark - none had arrived and so we left... Please eat a snack before you go here, since you might have a long wait.

The food was good, but not great. Hubby and I had the Italian nachos for an appetizer and then I ordered a shrimp and pasta dish that the waitress said was really really spicy. Well, no, not really - pretty good flavor, but not spicy at all. Now my standard for spicy are very high, but heck, my 3 yr. old was eating my food. The nachos were good, but I thought this place was a little over-priced.

Best happy hour in town--dollar drafts and half price pizza (update: this happy hour is in danger of going away entirely...it was what brought the locals to this place in the first place...now they've shrunk it to one hour from two and eliminated the all-night happy hour on Wednesdays. Mambo's might want to reconsider this move, especially once the next mud season rolls around or they might lose some regulars). Best pizza in town and a great staff and atmosphere.

Price is right for some great Italian food in Steamboat Springs. Patio dining and family friendly atmosphere was appreciated. Pizza for the kids and pasta for the adults was excellent. Everything tasted fresh and made on site. Just what we wanted.

We ate here last summer. My sweetie judges a place by the lasagna and he was very impressed. I had the ravioli and my mouth waters just remembering it. The service was outstanding and the lighting was perfect for a romantic evening in Steamboat.

We ate here with some friends; their son ordered pasta and when he got it it was cold. So he ordered a pizza instead. They then informed they were out of red sauce. How does an italian restaurant run out of red sauce? If you're looking for pizza, do yourself a favor and eat at Enzo's under the Steamboat Grand.

We ordered lunch with our two young daughters. Finally walked out after waiting 40 minutes for our pizza and a sandwich order. Our waitress said the oven was backed up in the kitchen. There were only 6 tables including ours. Unacceptable.

We went to Mambo on a Friday night and had a real good time. We sat at the bar and shared a bottle of wine and had a Caesar salad and a pasta dish. We had no complaints, everything went well. The atmosphere at Mambo was very energetic and had a great feel from the bar. We will be back!!!!

We had dinner at Mambos on our last night in Steamboat. Unfortunately it was the only negative of our entire trip. The food was ok but our server seemed annoyed when we wanted to substitute sides. The service was slow and not very friendly. definitely not worth the price!!!!

Overall, I would say this place is great. The tootsie roll appetizer is a great way to start the meal. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because I got their cesar salad... and it was a pretty big letdown. For an Italian restaurant, I would actually say this is one of my least favorite cesars ever. With that said, the rest of the meal made up for the cesar. I got the Fettuccini alla Rustica, and was very happy with my choice. The sauce was super creamy (which I know isn't the best for you, but I enjoy it) and the combination of chicken and shrimp was great. My wife got the Pasta Ravenna and enjoyed that too. The blush sauce is really delicious. For desert, we got the tiramisu, which was average. There wasn't enough coffee taste for my liking. We also got this desert that is made with fried bread crumbs and has a chocolate filling (I'm not sure of the name). It is served with vanilla gelato... and this is the dessert to get. It was delicious! We were fighting over the little crumbs of the fried bread crumbs. The place was packed and had a live band. The music was a tad loud, so we had to yell a little bit to hold a conversation. I would definitely suggest making reservations, especially during the peak season. I would definitely recommend this place, and would go back.

I was hesitant to eat here with my husband and 12 year old son because of the negative comments on the service. We however, had great service from beginning to end,as well as really great food!! My husband said, "this may be the best pizza I have ever had!" (The Hawaiian) I had the Penne with Vodka sauce - loved it. Portions were large so we were able to bring leftovers back to our condo for lunch tomorrow!

I only had the pizza here, but I was so unsatisfied by it, that I feel the need to review it. The crust tasted like I was eating a pizza box, though the box would have probably had more flavor. I normally love thin crust, Italian-style pizza, but this one lacked any good flavor. Even the arugula on it tasted odd, and the pancetta was merely average. The ambiance was nice, though the service was lacking. We waited a long time for our drinks and check, even though it was off-season and not that busy. I cannot speak for the rest of the menu, but if you eat here, do not get the pizza.
